LaToya Benson

LaToya Benson, Bachelors in Human Services and Ministry Leadership and Masters level candidate for Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling

I am excited to be completing my internship at Harmony in Hues Wellness Center.

My journey into the helping profession began during a challenging time in my life. It was in that darkness that I discovered the profound impact of relationships and the importance of compassionate counsel. I realized how my conditioned mindset had held me captive until I broke free from negative thinking patterns. This pivotal experience inspired me to become a therapist, dedicated to walking alongside others on their healing journeys.

As a Black woman, I understand the stigma surrounding therapy in the racialized community. This drives my passion for collaborating with women and adolescents from underserved backgrounds, as I aim to create a safe and supportive space for those who need it most.

I embrace an integrative theoretical approach tailored to meet the unique needs of each client. Throughout my internship, I look forward to taking part in training opportunities and gaining valuable experience to lay a solid foundation for my future as a clinician.

I hold an undergraduate degree in Human Services and Ministry Leadership from Cornerstone University and am currently enrolled in a dual track Master’s program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling at Spring Arbor University.

Allan Greig, MSW intern, MABS

As someone who has been the recipient of support and care during difficult times, I value and appreciate the role of coming alongside others. I have always had a heart to join people in making sense of life's journey and I feel honored to be invited into it with them. I believe there is great value in pursuing understanding and making sense of what can sometimes feel like chaos. I know that good talk therapy helps us grow and become the best version of ourselves that we want to be.

For many years I have worked at mentoring and coaching here in the US as well as in my home country of South Africa. I have a deep interest in exploring identity, culture, and the minority experience. I lean on my "somewhat of an outsider" experience to help bring a unique perspective. I believe in the Ubuntu approach to relationships ("I am because you are") that recognizes the interconnectedness of life and the importance of belonging and finding our purpose and place in the community.

Allan Greig has a Master's degree (MABS) in theological training from Moody Theological Seminary in Chicago, and is currently a Master of Social Work Candidate at the University of Michigan - School of Social Work, Ann Arbor for Interpersonal Practice in Integrated Health, Mental Health, & Substance Abuse. He is currently also a New Leaders in African Centered Social Work scholar.
